All public schools in Illinois are now required to have sexual assault and abuse awareness programs starting next school year.
The measure is known as Erin's Law and Governor Pat Quinn signed it into law on Thursday. The last time Margo and Erin were in this room, they were children. Children telling a counselor about their sexual abuse and the threats from their abusers that followed. "Walking in it brought me back to that age thinking of those memories with my sister going through trying to process all the pain," Margo said. "This is a place I walked into scared and terrified that I wasn't going to be believed," said Erin. The woman came back to The Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County Thursday to witness a new law to empower young victims of abuse. Governor Quinn signed Erin's Law Thursday.
